What are your thoughts and opinions on a MAC computer? I'll be ordering one for college soon. For those of you that have one already, what do you think the pros and cons of having a MAC are? And if you switched FROM a windows to a mac, what made you change and are you happy with your decision? Any of you know freebie programs for mac? please share it here. sooner or later ill be needing them, im sure this thread will help other mac users.

to be honest a mac is not the best choice. i mean its ok but its no different to be honest. apple is namebrand and people think its all good. get a regular netbook for college. same functions no difference. mac isnt compatible with alot of programs. dont try to be like everyone, mac is not good at all trust me.

i mean, i just switched to macbook pro. the transistion was good, it took me a little while to get accustomed to it but programwise just get a vmware or parallels for mac program and you can run all your OS (s).

i have google chromium and windows 7 and ubuntu on my vmware

to the guy above.. why get a mac when your gonna wanna RUN WINDOWS ANYWAYS? dont tell me mac is faster because it costs twice as more than a windows system thats as fast as it. it cant be software because theres TONS more software for windows. thats like getting a rb26dett(windows) engine and putting it in a 2011 bentley mulsanne. Yeah its some flashy cool looking bentley(mac) with a very good engine(windows) that has tons of aftermarket parts(software), but its still a bentley that you cant do nothing with. plus it(mac) costs so much more than the skyline you could have gotten in the first place. I hope you understand my analogy.

point is, why pay more for something cheaper that can do the same or even better.

From my experience Windows had more Cons than Pros. System always crashing/freezing,Viruses...Reinstalling XP several times than I could possibly remember and the list goes on.... Plus their whole interface was shitty in IMO. Perfomance-wise the difference was noticed instantaneously when I made the switch. Have yet to experience any of the issues that I did with Windows. With apple everything is a whole lot simpler plus there are less restrictions. Adding and Removing programs are as easy. All you got to do is drag the program from the install location (whether it be from the USB or Disc Drive)
and drop it in your "Applications Folder." Deleting an app simply requires you to drag it to the recycle bin. There are tons of free & cracked software out there for Mac..... Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. I would recommend that you browse Craigslist if you really wanna pay less for your Mac. I got mine off there in excellent condition & with an extended warranty (Applecare) for a steal. If money isn't an issue for you then you might as well purchase it online. Though I must admit that the Prices & Taxes are ridiculous lol. Don't forget to purchase the extended warranty plan. It does come in handy...If you do come across any issues with your mac all you have to do is set up an appointment at the Apple Store and they will fix the problem (might even give you a new computer depending on the severity of the issue) That's another reason why I love apple their customer service is excellent. For me the transition was long overdue although it took me a couple days to get used to the system. I haven't used a Windows computer in about a year and a half and surely don't miss it. Overall The Mac is a better choice. Yes you can get something expensive that is much better for a cheaper price......

Or instead of getting a operating system thats made for idiots, you can learn how to use a computer the right way so you don't get any viruses, adware, spyware, etc.

Yes you can run Windows via Parallels desktop or Vmware simultaneously. Once you have fully understood how apples Operating system works then Windows will become pretty much obsolete.

mac's are awesome computers, they ARE well overpriced compared to a similar windows machine but its worth it. dont get me wrong, i own both and i use both every single day, but if i had to choose, i'd go with the mac. since your going to school i would recommend the mac ONLY if your budget can afford one. the type of things you would do (word processing etc) a mac would suffice. people are always talking about all the apps are on windows, and the people who say that are dumb f.ucks -_- its true windows has more programs but mac can do almost anything a windows computer can do, and if it cant just use VMWare. like i said, i use them both every single day (macs are all they use at work, and i use my windows laptop at home) and i havent found anything a mac couldnt do. anyone who talks BS about a mac most likely does own one. they are also built really nice and very reliable, i've yet to get one to crash on me. i could always get a windows computer to **** up. anyways if you do get the mac, i'd recommend the 15 or 17 inch with either an i5 or i7 processor and also ask em for the high resolution screen. if you find its too much you could always get a much faster windows machine for the less the price.

CON for a MAC: you only have a certain amount of charges on a MAC after they run out you gotta buy a battery around a $150 - $200

apple designs their batteries to be recharged over a 1000 times, so by the time you run into this problem, you'd be well on your way to getting a new computer lol

naturally. i wasnt taking sides, just saying macs are sexy and can manage basic shit lol, but windows is where the raw power is at.

Mac are overpriced, underclocked, locked bios piece of eyecandy, that don't come with any so called user friendly apps at stock purchase.

Highest clock speed on all macs 2.8 Ghz. PC i7 normal clock 3.2 Ghz.
    http://store.apple.com/ca/browse/home/shop_mac/family/mac_pro?mco=MTM3NDk1MTc

As for windows security? The user must be handicap, As for apps, there's a shit load of them for windows and 100's of ways not to pay for them. IE: DEMONOID.me FTW.

In addition you can't game very well on a mac. In general, won't you rather build your device, choosing your gpu, thermal paste, cooling methods etc, as too buying a device that has a restrictor on its performance. I guess this restriction is what gives the image that OS-X doesn't crash as its cpu never clocks at high frequencies.

And with the windows 7 stored on a solid state hard drive, you can boot up in 10 seconds.

It's the equivalent to buying an underachieving device that you can't customize and play with on your own.

All the people who ***** and complain about windows being unstable and always crashing on them are ****tards. Stop watching porn, stop clicking on ads, stop going to shady websites, & stop downloading bullshit, end of ****ing story ! Get a decent anti virus if your worried about all of that. I run my PC with out any antivirus because i do not do any of the things above. Especially on a PC i do work on, have important documents/files, pics, music, ect. If im using it for school it will be used for school end of story. Macs have there pros and cons but certainly isn't superior to windows. I'm not going to plain out say Windows is better but personally i built my pc so i know whats in it and what it is capable of & im happy being a PC lol
