Kendrick is not saying he's the king of New York!! He says "I'm Makavelli's offspring I'm the king of New York" meaning he's a son of biggie and 2pac. So he's not beefin with anyone he's just trying to get rappers to get back to being lyrical instead of making down south music.

It's not a diss, it's a challenge. I commend him for it. I don't know why other rappers took it the wrong way. "I'm the king of new york, king of the coast..." is simply contradiction, just like when he said "I'm muslim on pork"

The rappers who actually responded to him catch too much feelings.

it isnt a diss homie, its merely a request for rappers to start rapping again, go to worldstar and u would see all the responses with lyrics. its a bid to get new york on the map again for rapping.

he's just trying to make rapping more competitive like how it was a while ago. now its just different rappers trying to build their name. barely any competition or entertainment. thats what his verse was meant to do. and it clearly did, if you hear all the responses from other artists coming out.

All replies to that track were wack except B.O.B's "How 2 Rap". Cassidy fail. Lupe Fiasco fail. Joel Ortiz fail. A$AP Rocky fail. Shyne fail. Kendrick is a lyrical genius.

The rappers who matter took it the right way. Enough said.

Anyone else who replied to Control either did it for the sake of sparking their own name, or cause they interpreted 'king of ny' differently. Maybe both. I'm not too fond of Kendrick Lamar though. He hasn't proven himself to be the next Tupac or Big as he says yet, but he does have a distinct style. Initiating a 'challenge' or 'controversy' or whatever you guys want to call it doesn't guarantee he's gonna be the next best-selling rapper (that's how I measure 'best' hip-hop artist, 'rap' music is not necessarily true hip-hop culture). Hip-hop isn't just metaphors and 2 verses of analogies, it tells stories, and as far as I'm concerned, Jay-Z and Nas will always be the best hip-hop artists alive for a while. All this Kendrick Lamar hype will die down and be forgotten in the next few days lol.

Its a good challenge for those who he called out in the verse. The ones who should be worried are those who he did not mention.

Well said but I kind of disagree with you. Don't matter how hard one tries, they will never be the next Biggie & Pac. Jay-Z and Eminem are the 2 greatest rapper in the books no doubt but even they can't be compared to Biggie & Pac. Does Kendrick have what it takes to be another Jay-Z or Em? Yes! The dude is off the hook. He's mean on his freestyles and he's a very good story teller in his radio hits. I really hope Kendrick isn't one of those rappers that people forget, the dude is one of my favourite upcoming rappers man.

I've been following Kendrick for the past 4 years. I know dude would buss. The kid is DIFFERENT.
He will never be as great as Biggie or Pac. He's better than Jay-Z lyrically no doubt. Him and Em are close to the same level. I want him to be blow up bigger but I don't think mainstream will embrace him.
"Dumb it Down" freestyle is super dope. I still bump that in the car.
