    Macbook Pro.

I used to be such an apple hater but once u really start to get to know OSX. nothing compares.

I have a need for Windows for business/work applications, and for that I run Parallels Desktop with Windows XP SP3 and it does the job more than adequately for those rare occurrences where I MUST have windows.

i recommend getting a mac, however they are pricey.
if you want a desktop, build it yourself.
if you want an HP, get somethign with a processor higher than 2.0 ghz, and 6 gbs of RAM. The standard right now i been noticing is 4gb RAM and 2.0 ghz, if u go higher, you will be set for another couple years. Although, 4gbs and 2.0 ghz is more then enough for windows 7.

I also had a similar question. I'm planning on getting an apple/mac laptop soon especially more for college use and spontaneous internet use. I was in the apple store just this past week and the notebooks they have there are pretty good. Any suggestions to this type as well?

speaking of fire, i need a laptop with a very good cooling system...
lets just say my laptop can reach temperatures of over 100 degrees Celsius (212 degrees Fahrenheit)
and trust me, i have the charts to prove it!

If you're a college student do not buy one.

What I hated about Macs back in the day were the people that bought them. Majority of them that I knew were college students who were broke as hell who had no need to spend that much on a computer for their needs, but were on mommy and daddy's dime so they dropped the coin.

Then they were snobs about it like they deserved it.

If you have a need for its superior capabilities in terms of it being the industry standard for graphics design etc... or if you're just a baller and can afford it, go ahead.

Not that you're planning on spending mom/dad's money, I'm sure you're paying for your own ish, but if funds are tight, dont buy a mac just to be e-cool... buy something in your budget, do something constructive with the rest.

Mac or PC doesn't matter, it'll be outdated in two years.

A decent PC notebook will be approx half the price of ur average macbook pro... I'd rather buy the PC and yes it'll be junk in a few years, but who cares you'll have the money that u didn't spend on a more expensive macbook pro, to buy the new current technology 2 years from now.

Otherwise stated, 2 computers for the price of one.

Granted you can get a macbook (non-pro) for cheaper, but then its specs are no where near on par with the PC's in the similar price ranges.

Again as a college student, buy a decent PC in your budget at use the hell out of it for a few years and then trade up.

i dont know how u guys are in school if you take your comp's to class, but mine went everywhere with me in college. In 2 years I definitly did need a new one just from abuse let alone the technology starting to show as outdated.

On that note talking about which brands are good, In college I followed the advice above, and I started with my first laptop in highschool which was an Compaq (same as HP) --- it did its job, then I got a Toshiba, which was a great computer that still is kicking to this day, gave it to my mother to use. Then I went back to another HP, that was also excellent.

After I got outta college, I was still somewhat against Macs and dropped about 3 grand on the top of the line Dell XPS Studio 16, it was the biggest piece of shit ever. Constant trouble. Dell finally replaced the motherboard about 4 seperate times until I gave up with it and insisted I was refunded fully.

Thats when I got my Macbook Pro... Paid close to 3g for it as well.

Looking back my HP was very solid and inexpensive.

The Toshiba was also a pretty solid machine.

I've never heard anything favorable about Gateway or Acer.

Good things have been said to me about Lenovo's which are basically IBM's.

Sony's are stupidly over priced and if you're gonna go that route may as well just hit the Macbook Pro.

All in all, I'd suggest HP, Toshiba, or Lenovo.

At the end of the day what you're buying in a brand is customer service when it comes to PC, many of them share the same internal components just rebranded. You want a computer that is backed with a decent warranty and free replacement parts when shit hits the fan.

HP being the cheapest, I'd just take my happy ass to Best Buy, pick up a decent HP in my price range with the specs/weight/battery life that works for me, and pick up their Geek Squad service and then call it a day.

Probably end up 2/3 the price of a comparably spec'd out Macbook Pro, with a 3 year warranty everything covered vs the 1 year standard on the macbook pro.

Enjoy college, beat the hell out of it when ur out, step up to baller status.
