This is a very good thread my friend, very similar to the one i created about laptops.

Alien ware is certainly good, but not the best, if thats ur opinion then great!
extreme quad core is very very efficient and unnecessary at the same time.
as far as i know, there are few quad cored running over 3.0 ghz.

First off, alien ware is its own name, dell may own it, but they do not build it
alien ware is moreover used for gaming.

A quad core is efficient in the use of you running multiple programs and no freezing or lagging occurs. Its kinda unecesary becuz if you are just running facebook, mastahpiece, and some porno= 1 firefox 3tabs, aim, mayb itunes, then you could easily get away with a core 2 duo which would work great.

Me, personally im gettin the dv6t quad edition because it has a 1.6ghz i7 quad core processor, im in college and im going to be doing alot of programing and networking for my major.

On ur case, if you are on ebay, itunes, word, acid pro, mastahpiece/chat, downloading porno all at once everyday, then a quad core is perfect for you.

i would not get an apple unless you specifically have a bond for apple products, they are overpriced and unnecessary in my opinion.

i would narrow ur choice down to 2 brands, hp and alien ware.

the HP Pavilion Elite e9270t series which has a either the

    Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-860 processor [2.8GHz, 1MB L2 + 8MB shared L3 cache]

    or

    Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-870 processor [2.93GHz, 1MB L2 + 8MB shared L3 cache]

both overclocked can reach much more then 3 ghz

and ram wise with some extra money between 6-12 gb of ram

price range of this is between $999-$2500

if you wanna go a step up, you can get the e9280t

    which has either a

    Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-920 processor [2.66GHz, 1MB L2 + 8MB shared L3 cache]

    or

    Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-950 processor [3.00GHz, 1MB L2 + 8MB shared L3 cache]

    or

    Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-975 processor Extreme Edition [3.33GHz, 1MB L2 + 8MB shared L3 cache]

    with 8-24 gb or ram

this one will run you to about $1200-$3000

but both hps have i7 quad processors.

    now for alien ware

there are a number of alien ware quad core desktops
the best would have to be the Area-51 ALX

    with

    Intel® Core™ i7 960 (3.2GHz, 8MB Cache)
    or
    Intel® Core™i7 975 3.33GHz (8MB Cache) Extreme Edition Quad

then again you can get the factory overclocked version which is....

    Overclocked Intel® Core™i7 975 3.73GHz (8MB Cache) Extreme quad Core Processor
    or
    Overclocked Intel® Core™i7 975 3.86GHz (8MB Cache) Extreme Edition Quad Core Processor

    with 6-12 gb of ram..

this will run you from $3500-$5000

    good luck choosing...

then again you could spend $1200 to build a desktop more beast then anything i just showed you ;)
i will let trev tell you about that, we all kno hes gonna go all out when he see this lmao

i also like hp and alienware.. i used to be a dell man but i realized their stuff is way overpriced and the specs arent as good as other brands.. but me personally.. the next desktop computer i get is gonna be built by me.. its just far more cheaper to build a desktop, especially if you want alienware specs.. you can get the same or quality of hardware for half the price.. if you know someone that can put it together for you then thats ideal.. its kinda cool to say you built your own top of the line computer just the way you want it

better, faster computers come out every 3 months. just get one that works good for you and be happy with it. You dont need 200gb of memory and 10TB hd space just to watch porn and play farmville..

alienware is good but if you really got the time you can build a much faster system. check out tigerdirect.com or geeks.com for parts and shit. if your not looking to build one and just do basic shit and got the money i suggest a mac, they never really crash and are easy to use. other than that i cant recommend anything else. i dont really look into brands for buying bcuz i build my computers. unless its a laptop.
