I'm on windows right now but I'm planning to buy a mac laptop a few weeks from now. The quality & performance is superior to windows by far.

    Re: Windows Vs. Mac

    Windows is better IMO
Mac has no programs and about the viruses.... just wait, thats only because hackers havent targeted mac yet because many people never used to use them.
Either way people should know how to protect their computers no matter what Os they are running.

In all honesty Linux beats both of these because it works more closely at the hardware level, so it runs more efficiently and it is more versatile.

    Edit:
And about Mac running better, Mac is a more powerful OS for multimedia stuff.

    it depends ...

... on what you want to do.

I'm a *IX software engineer and I've been a happy Debian user for over a decade. If you need a server you need to have a good reason not to choose Linux. So, if you're interested in unixoid operating systems you should definitely check out Debian, OpenBSD, etc. But, my needs are not what the majority of people need.

Both, MS Windows and Apple's OS X are practical desktop operating systems, fit to be used by average computer users.

Apple's OS X is a nicer OS than Windows, just because it's a newer design and does not need to be similar to / compatible with Windows from the last millennium. On the other hand there is still not as much commercial and free software for OS X as there is for MS Windows. Most of your friends will be using Windows and will be recommending you to try this or that software, which will only work on Windows. Due to it's FreeBSD/Mach roots and slick GUI, OS X is often the preferred choice of high-level GUI and web software engineers. If you are a computer novice, I think OS X is the easiest to learn. But, these days most people are already familiar with MS Windows, so Windows has the advantage of being familiar. Macs are generally a bit more expensive for the same level of raw performance than computers shipped with Windows because Apple has a monopoly for OS X based hardware. On the other hand this monopoly assures that all computers running OS X are perfectly supported by the operating system and Macs just work. Even so equally priced non-Apple hardware usually is faster, not properly administered Windows systems tend to get bogged down by loads of junk software making them sluggish.

    In short,
    • if you can invest the additional $$$ and some time, go with a Mac.
    • If you need some particular software, use whatever the software needs.
    • If you just need a web browser, buy a cheap netbook running Linux.
    • If you want to really learn about computers, start with a Mac, experiment with any of the free OS on your spare computer and home server, but don't neglect to learn how to repair a Windows machine to help your friends and colleagues :)

    Re: Windows Vs. Mac

most people just think mac is the best because of its superior hardware. the reason macs are so good is because they make the computer AND the software, so they achieve the most stable operating system. its true mac has no viruses, mac's dont even need antivirus BUT they still can get viruses, there are a few. ultimately, macs are better simply because if i wanted to run something windows, i have the best of both worlds.

    Re: Windows Vs. Mac

i didnt want to reply to this but since i seeing alot of u all sayin mac is better cos of no viruses and it performs better n all dat i jus wanna give my opinion or rather my experience. i used windows flawlessly without virus problems or performance issues and lags. I do not use any antivirus and my firewall and windows defender is always disabled. So its not a matter of what OS u have its how u take care of ur pc on a whole. but besides that i believe mac is more stable n such, but for a hefty price. half di people i kno cannot afford a mac. so if u gonna compare these 2, u gotta have boundaries , like price range, cpu speed etc.
