    I own a Sony Vaio Laptop, Model VGN-FE790. Running windows xp. Its about 5 years old.

    This is my problem;

    well, i have a sony vaio laptop. Usually when i dont have the laptop plugged in to charge, when the battery eventually drains, it would have a notification in the task bar saying "LOW BATTERY" when the battery is almost out.

    Recently, it hasn't been happening. Instead of the reminder, the computer just shuts down. And at times I've been loosing work. I even rebooted my C Drive and edited my battery settings in "Display Properties". but still no luck.

    It's been happening for the past 3 weeks.

    how do i fix this? Help PLEASE!

    your battery pack is bad, you'll have to replace if you plan on using it without the power cord.

    take the battery pack out and write the model/serial # down & search for it on google.

    those us websites should ship to canada. did you check ebay?

    the only place that have the battery is overseas and it cost 200 bucks ... what im noticing wth this computer now is that im getting that notification every now and then, once every while when the laptop is un plugged, it shuts off SOMETIMES now...weird. still worries me though, ive edited all the settings possible. today all day i was really testing it out, ive gotten all notifications of the bettery being low, until this one time where i was watching a full screen music video right after unplugging the ac, then shortly into it, it shuts off again. now again i charged it back to 100 and unplugged it and i got back the low battery notification. anyone have an idea what this could be, or do you all think its the battery still?

    It's your battery. You can learn why this is happening here: http://tinyurl.com/3x4xzgj

    Get a new battery, charge it to 100% and store it for when you need to use your laptop off the charger. Keep the old one in your laptop for when your using the plug to power it.

    Sorry buddy, i did some checking around and it is your battery. A new one is going to run you a couple hundred, there is no way around it. Maybe you can score a deal at a local computer repair shop. This is a longshot but maybe u can buy a broken laptop and get the battery out of that. Good luck to you.

    its the battery. i have a sony vaio vgn 320e and the battery is awful. only lasts 15-30 minutes and shuts off without warning during any of those times. the battery is bad its not the laptop. however when i close the laptop but its still on it typically lasts like between 45 minutes and an hour + . so try closing the laptop if you need to mobilize and dont want to shut down. also i suggest just getting a new laptop if you can. when i checked out the price of the battery for mine it was 200+ and that is just ridiculous. good luck 2 u.
