That's easy for you to say, because its not your laptop.

I think you should take the laptop to a technician and see what really is the problem people can only give you so many suggestions on what to do. Toshiba laptops are relatively easy to troubleshoot and fix so try taking it to a professional.

out of all of these replys, i already knew they wouldnt work. Try removing the battery and pressing down the power button for 15 seconds, this removes all power from the cells in the computer, if this doesnt work, it might be a faulty device in your computer, most likely RAM (memory). people always assume its the motherboard, but 98% of computers i fix, thats not the problem, its usually a hardware problem. tell me if the power cycle trick doesnt work.

If the laptop shows the boot screen for a few seconds then shuts off then you have a few options, 1 being that its losing power by either a faulty motherboard or power jack on the board is not grounding properly. 2 can be dirt clogging the fans and making the cpu overheat and causing auto shut off on the board to prevent processor damage, this can be fixed by blowing some compressed air through the heat and exhaust ducts on the bottom or side of the laptop, or if its an older laptop it can also be that the cpu needs new thermal paste, if it gets hard then this can occur. 3 if there is no boot screen and it just turns on and then off within 1-3 seconds its a hardware failure and you need to go step by step checking the ram modules, harddrive bay, video card if not built in onboard. on most laptops you can check this with the amount and delay of beeps or led lights that blink.

Correct his screen is going on off not the pc happens sometimes when the video out is not reset because of improper seating of connecting cable etc....he needs to hit F1 OR LOGO BUTTON AND P TOGETHER OR THE BUTTON WITH THE LAPTOP/SCREEN PRINTED ON IT OR FORCE SHUTDOWN BY HOLDING THE POWER BUTTON AND HIT F6 RESTORE TO LAST GOOD CONFIG....JUST SOME OPTIONS...
