Major changes for 2012 Chutney Soca Monarch Tuesday October 11th, 2011
New rules and regulations, exciting new elements, and a new theme are all part of the
major changes to be implemented for next year's Chutney Soca Monarch.

Accordingto the organiser, Southex, the Chutney Soca Monarch is being re-branded and
will have a new look in 2012.

Among thechanges is the theme "One Caribbean, One music, One People" which
reflects an embracing of the Caribbean spirit, Caribbean music and Caribbean
    people.

The producers have proposed to move the event one week closer to Carnival and have
proposed the Grand Final to be hosted on Saturday 11th February
2012.Discussions with the National Carnival Commission on these matters are
    continuing.

Southex is projecting that 2012 will be the biggest and most exciting year in the history
of the Chutney Soca Monarch. It said the Grand Final's move to Port of Spain is
a positive one, and one that will position the event where it should be.

The following is a breakdown of next year's changes.

    NEW RULES & REGULATIONS

*2 new rules will be introduced to the competition in 2012.

*Artistes will not be allowed to use film melodies in their songs, which have
plagued the competition over the last few years. Only songs that have 100%
original melodies and lyrics will be allowed to compete, and there will also be
a screening of the music to ensure that lyrics and topics are positive.

GUYANA TO BE INCLUDED IN A MAJOR WAY (FINALLY!!!) LOL

*In 2012, a number of new features will be added to the event.

*3 artistes from Guyana will be taken directly to the Grand Final of Chutney
Soca Monarch through a special screening process that will see eliminations
gradually come down to the three selected Guyanese artistes.

*2 judges from Guyana will also sit on the judging panel for the Grand Final
should in case the technologies fail on the night.

*The Grand Final of the Chutney Soca Monarch will be broadcast 'live' via
satellite to Guyana and featured on a major TV network in Guyana.

*Finally, the event, which is judged by 100% text votes, will also give the
Guyana public the opportunity to participate at this level, as arrangements are
also being put in place for the people of Guyana to be able to vote via text
    voting through a local network.

*By 2013, it is expected that a 'Guyana Leg' of the Chutney Soca Monarch
competition will take place in Georgetown.

    OTHER VOTING
*In 2012, apart from Guyana national s being allowed to vote through a local
network, online voting will take place as the event will be streamed over the
internet to a 'live' viewing public. Text voting will also take place as in years
gone by in the USA, Canada and of course Trinidad & Tobago.

They have thrived on making songs out of film melodies. Who knows what will actually happen now. Finally, some time for real music!

No wonder chutney music slowed down for a while, Big Rich probably scrambling to make some original tunes now.

OMG YES! Finally people have come to a realization chutney music and the chutney soca monarch is a COMPLETE JOKE. Finally the people at Southex decided to change up the rules this year. NO MORE FILM SONGS, YES! I am so thrilled at this new rule, people tend to forget that it was the CHUTNEY MONARCH, not taking the melody of a indian song and putting crappy lyrics to them. I think this is what we need to actually get QUALITY CHUTNEY MUSIC BACK. I have noticed that Big Rich hasn't been producing any new songs lately, and wheres RAVI B? Probably working on something original for once.
Couple years ago you had your Mousie, Thar Gori, Lotayla, Dheere Dheere, Payalia and much hits. Now you have songs like Pehli Nazar Mein and Prem Kahani passed off as chutney music.

I am also happy that GUYANA is now gonna be a huge part of the Monarch. Chutney is both trinidadian and guyanese music! Glad to see artists like Terry Gajraj, Mahendra Ramkellawan, Pooran Seeraj, and Fiona, Bunty, getting a chance to shine finally.

This year the monarch is gonna 100000 times better. I just wanna see what original songs these chutney artists are gonna come up with.

LOL funny I just bbm DollyBoy (limer). I told him he has to come up with a ORIGINAL song for once, no more limer - suno na, no more mey neyba - dil aisa no more same girl -yeh bandhan to. And this nigga replied to me "go suck a lime". LMAO being original is gonna be hard for these crappy chutney artists.

BTW, I just should be one of the judges to determine if a song is ORIGINAL OR HAS AN INDIAN MELODY. I am very good at that lmao! Vote me for JUDGE!

So I'm late to the post, but the rule of having hindi lyrics interpolated into the son should be brought back. What's the difference between a chutney song and a soca song. For instance, Rikki Jai's whit oak and water is a chutney soca song because its sung by an Indian? Or it's chutney soca simply because its produced by fpm? Hmm, let me know what u guys think.
