O.K., so I need to build a computer with the latest gadgets and software's etc... how much will this cost me? I know shit all about computers so I need some help here. I don't know what the **** is the difference between an i7 and dual core or whatever the hell it is. I went looking around to buy a new complete desktop package that cost at least $2,000 before taxes, but a lot of people are advising me to build a PC instead. They say it will cost much less + I will have a computer twice as nice. Is this true?

I need a computer that can handle a lot of production software's such as AcidPro, Adobe Audition, Cool Edit, Reason, FruityLoops, Adobe Photshop etc...

I just need to know how much it will cost me to build a computer with decent amount of ram, a decent video card, hard drive space etc... something you will find in stores today but instead I could build myself.

Well hello. Your friends are right, it is much cheaper to build a computer now a days. The other plus to building a computer is that you know everything about it, and you won't ever need to buy store warranty cause you'll know what to do. My whole build, which i did in 2009 was 1,700 in all with a 21.5 monitor and other mods for my computer case. If i were to advise you, don't ever buy a computer again. ;) If you're building now, you NEED to set a budget by all means. Yes its true that your computer will look a million times nicer and it will be cheaper. You can get a maxxed out build for the same price as some half-assed computer in the store.

If you want to build now, definately go for an i7 build. Since you're going to be doing alot of multi-tasking/processing with all those programs, I'd say to focus on a high end processor and hard drive. Next of importance would be ram obviously. It's alot to figure out at first but I am more than sure you will get it. I'll show you some sites that i used, and I'm sure you have heard of them also.

I'm currently running a quad core Q9400 @2.66ghz with 8GB ram, and I use my computer for gaming and graphics mostly. I run the adobe suite like a charm so I'm sure you will be just fine with yours. :) It's a learning experience and I hope that you enjoy it as much as I do. I would say not to spend more than $1700 on your build. I spent almost 200 on my case alone and another 200 on my monitor so in all yours should be like 1400-1500. Anything more expensive than that isn't worth it :)

Here are the sites, i'm sure you've heard of them.

NewEgg -(I bought all my parts here, i lowered price by buying in combos.)
    www.newegg.com

Xoxide - Case Mods, CCFLs, Diff Fans, Gaming Gear etc.
If you buy lights from them, they almost always break, so they send out mad extras if you tell them all yours broke ;x
    www.xoxide.com

Performance PCs - Case Mods, but they have really nice Cases to buy here.
    http://www.performance-pcs.com/catalog/index.php

Anyways I hope that I helped, even in the slightest way, i'm telling you off my personal experience.

I got my old one on black friday 2 years ago. With all the music engineering, graphics design and the few videos i made the computer could handle it all. It was some amd based dual core compaq with 3gb memory and some other shit. Never had a problem where it froze due to lack of processing power. I have then upgraded with a custom system. The only performance gain i notice is being able to render audio/video files quicker. oh, i play crisis 2 as well :).
