seagate 250GB internal (OS/programs)
seagate 1TB internal (storage)
some cheap ass evga video card
m-audio 192 pci audio interface

I overclocked with the asus auto tune feature and it got me pretty close to 4.1ghz but it was very unstable so I went in manually and ****ed around and got it stable at 4026mhz (16.5x244). I'm a happy camper. Wont be getting a new system for a while.

 

Thank You I don’t know how I feel about upgrading only certain parts in my computer, I think when I get tired of my quad I’m just gonna end up selling all the parts and go for the next best processor out. At the time I did this build, I was going for an i7 (it was the 920 nehalem) and I am SO glad that I didn’t get it because my quad ended up benching much better. The i5 for my laptop, like I bought it in August, and I really can’t complain because it does great on performance, especially with the 6GB ram it carries. Nvidia has always been my favorite with EVGA cause you know how on your last build you used Precision too. It’s perfect for tuning. I didn’t even know that Asus made asrock. I only have an Asus monitor and have no experience with the brand itself. AMD I think is terrible mainly because i think it’s not as great at monitoring temperatures.

That’s actually pretty good cause you can use the money from what you sold to buy the new parts Lucky you with the digital camera btw . And Western Digital. SMFH. I have the 300GB Velociraptor. I have no idea whether I like it or not. I don’t know, like when I wake my comp up from a sleep state, it has issues waking up. It wakes up, but the logon screen never loads. I think it’s my hard drive, obviously. I don’t know how it has this issue, and it randomly crashes, and system restores do nothing and I end up having to reformat. So then I took it to my PC Support teacher and he tried hooking up my hard drive to 3 different externals, and you couldn’t even hear the fan spinning in the hard drive. It was acting like a dead drive, then I put it back in my computer and it worked perfectly. I used to think it was my sub under my desk that would mess with the hard drive, like vibrations or something, but I highly doubt that. I guess I’ll end up getting another hard drive. Moral of the story is that my Velociraptor hates me.

 

yeah i would get a laptop just liek what you have, 6gb ram and i5 processor is good enought for laptops, im gunnuh work on selling this laptop and buying a new one, later on after im done with this beast build lol.

i personally dont use any utilities and programs from any manufacturer for overclocking and monitering temps etc, i think its all garbage lol, i doo all setttings and monitering from the bios inself,and i rly dont over clock anything, i buy the parts with the exact speeds i want so no need for overclocking and a raise in temperatures, causing damage to you parts sooner than normal.i wanted an i7 when i did my first build too man, i was liek hell yeah i7 is beast but cost too damn much so i just had the intel coer 2 duo 3.3ghz lmao

that sleep state problem could be a mobo problem also, not only hard drive,during my initial build, my mobo and hard drive wud stay on for about 15-20 mins and then hang and cut offf, i replace the power supply, had thought that the hard drive was bad,even video card i reseated about 5 times lmao, and ram and everything, when it fact, it was just the motherboard was a bad batch, so i returned it and just got a whole new brand, that wud be the gigabyte board i ended up with and that thing is really good. and i dont think hard drives have fans in them lol, or maybe i just never seen one with a fan , it should have been the spindle and platters you hear spinnin from you hard drive lol. you shouda returned you drive as soon as you where having problems, or use warrenty or something, all my new parts that i bought, i have 30 days return pocliy, so im gunnuh work it hard and test it good so i know its good, if not, im returning or exchange right away lol i dont play games.

 

I personally love my laptop. I got lucky with the price because it was on sale just before school started, and it was $640. That's mad cheap to pack in so much performance.

I've always been a fan of overclocking, and I never really saw the harm in it. I know it does take a toll on your parts, but then again I feel like I much rather push my components to it's full potential, especially if I'm gaming. The i7 was bullshit when they first came out. I always wait when a new processor comes out until they can perfect it. At the time I wanted the i7 with the x58 EVGA Overclocker's Mobo, but the mobo alone was $479 and I was like hell no.

Oh shit, if it's the mobo, then I'm in trouble cause the warranty on that is probably out by now >.< It hasn't happened in a while, but I don't want to speak too soon. LOL about the hard drive thing, thats what my teacher told me, so I just repeated it. Ahhh well, you're probably right. The warranty on that is up too. It never had this problem when I first got it, so I never thought much of it. I missed out on that because I should have returned those parts, but they choose to act up soon as warranty done. My luck -_-

Make sure you do another thread when you build, cause I wanna see. I also has seen your ps3 mod, and it looked hot!

& thanks for the ps3 mod, always wanted to do something cool like that, so i waited till my warranty was up and i went full blast ahead and did wat i wanted lol.

hope its not your mobo thats the prob man, aleast it dint act up ina while cuz mobo iza pain inde ass to replace and so on, i currently work from home repairing computers for anyone, i got business flyers and cards allover this state lol, so people call me and bring computers with all kinda problems and schupidness lmao, sometimes it a simple fix sometimes it takes work, but hey im makin money duin the thing i love! lol

Thanks lmao, I got mad lucky. I bought it anyways since i start school in January. Lol, I did the same thing but the most I have ever done with modding was probably changing the faceplate on my psp when I was like 13 lol. I thought I was such a badass making it gold. Too bad it doesn't work anymore.. LOL.

I hope it's not my mobo too, I don't trust my hard drive at all, I learned my lesson the first few times of reformatting. You better believe i burn my programs to DVD and back my music, documents, etc. up online.

I love working on computer also, hopefully it will become a career for me just as it has been for you. I only worked on a few computers before for other people, but after a while it got mad disgusting if you feel me. -_- People.. smfh lol. It's always a good thing to make money doing what we love. That's why I'm a crack dealer.

 

lmao dam i always wanted ah psp too but then i got ps3 and was like, whats the need for psp now lol.

i def backup my pictures and anything important to dvd also and store them away, plus that frees up hardd drive space and lets u rest assured that ur backed up stuff is safe and secure.

yehh ppl get annnoying as hell sum timess but u just goot deal wid itt lol, i left my frist job a a grocery store because it was so stressful and customers and ppl had me duin so much shit at once, but now i regret it honeselty because hey, i was making money, this side job with computer repairs doest always go good, because i dont get too many calls as of now, some weeks are good, some are not. but if i had that job, it wud be every week money coming in u feel me.
