I hope someone can help me with this. I have an ipod toch (3g) with a tethered jaibreak. The version is 4.3.5. I would like to update it, i'm having trouble doing that. The new version of jailbreak is 5 point something, and its untethered. I tried to update the version in itunes itself, but it would not update. I looked around the internet, and it basically said that I should update the version through itunes, but its just not going through. Can someone help me, please?

    - if the ipod is tethered, then it's probably locked. the only way around this is to reboot it and reset it to it's normal rom for it's kind. then from there, update the firmware to whichever one you want

How do I reboot and reset it to its normal rom? What programs would I need, and how would I use them?

Why Dont You Download The Firmware You Want To Update It To, Save The Firmware To Your Desktop, Then Open Up Itunes.
Plug In Your Device, After That Hold Down Shit AND CLICK RESTORE, A New Window Will Pop Up Find The Firmware You Downloaded And Click Open,
The Ipod Will Start Restoring To That Firmware.

Now If You Want To JailBreak It I Suggest Using " Spirit " its simple and fast
you can use jailbreakme.com but they said theres a new way for the new firmware.

but with spirit you jus save it to your desktop, run as admin. then b4 you click jailbreak plug in your device and it will jailbreak automatically dont worry bout putting it in dfu mode.

Ohk Now Do To All Of This I Have A Question Based On This
Can An Ipod Touch (1G) Be Updated To A 4.2.X Firmware ?

GO -> settings and click general and scroll down
Look for Reset and reset all the options that are listed.
Now try to update and see what happens.
