They all have made their footprint in that market and all are/were successful. Each had a time in which they shined the best. Kudos to all of them.

My vote goes to Dejoint and Big shat, despite they don't release often, they do put out great material, and their cds are timeless. For example, I still vibe to Rum Dog Millionaire (2009). Whereas Kbis has products out weekly, however the quality isn't there.

So the quality of the CD is what determines the best label? Yea KBIS has a lot of boring and bullsh-t releases but they do have a huge selection of big hitters as well. Forget about the quality of the CD's, KBIS has more DJ's signed, they pay the most, they sell the most (depending on DJ) and they've been around longer than every other label.

No disrespect to the other labels but how many "BIG" releases have BigShat put out there? I'm pretty sure that number is still smaller than KBIS's "BIG" releases. DeJoint is coming up. Not the best yet though....

I couldnt agree with you anymore boss. DEJOINT and BIGSHAT have 1-2 djs putting out cds for them every 5-6 months, they are clearly not the best cd label, and probably wont be going on for long...

you guys want to know some history? you know how big shat started? asif hassan the owner of big shat, when he first started, compiled a cd of old kbis remixes and tried to put it out with star music in queens lol

KBIS has more djs, more variety, can afford more than 2 djs for their label..
and has been around for 15 YEARS! KBIS has so many hit cds and are distributed all around the world. Big Shat and Dejoint have trouble just putting out there cds in new york, they dont even reach Canada or Florida.. just your local roti shop in Queens

Cool story bro. Now lets see you build a label based on original music.

I was going to stay away from this thread but all the crap i see posting here sucker me in.. First of its amazing how much some of you guys think you know about the inner working about certain people business when clearly you don't have a f ing clue.
Infamouse .. you should stay away from putting people name out there, just a word of advice.
George. Kbis have a awhole bunch of djs?? really u better take a a closer look. Further more we need to pack the bunch of dem in a barrel and float them down Niagra falls lol.
You guys have no clue cd sales and amount. so don't run up your mouth about where cd sells ..

Whats Kbis big hitters ?? the ones that I played a major part in them having in the first place lol...
All I got to say they are people who doing original stuff and bringing original ideas and then they are others that just stay back and copy..
    The one thing i got to say is this business is very stressful, so kudos to those who does it . I can't wait for the day that i give this shit up;;

It's stressful because of "we" aka "Mastahpiece.com"
If MP wasn't around you wouldn't have said its stressful because u would have been able to sell out all ur releases ;). That's a fact!

    another dumb comment right here.
U might find this hard to believe but I use MP site for alot of my business and gain from this site alot. I stated this in the past MP doesn't affect what I do. I cud put a cd up on here for a month and then release it on the market and it will still sell,, its two different crowd totally.
Damn I tired telling people that. But if u think Mp is the cause of the stress then go ahead and think what u want. Me personally think whats stressful is dealing with some stores for money, stores want cds cheap, bootleggers people who copies the cds we do and sell it to the stores cheaper than us. Time away from your family to go out and do cds and basically dealing with the bs... Not mp dude

Mp is for them people who can't afford 4 bux to buy a cd or for those is in a different area that our cds are not,, bro look at all the people from different country that visit this site,, who know one day i be on the beach in Figi and hear one dejoint cd playing, now tell me how i cud of made that possible.

It wasn't Caribu that made me quit. I stop with pushing CD's because I went to Florida. By the time I came back to Canada, I forget I was a DJ lol. I move on from there man....

Honestly though, Caribu is a piece of sh-t. Richard (Everest Music) is another lungeer, he only believe in Consignment. Shaz na tell you one time we run into DJ Dutty Flex at one Indian CD store? The store owner said he will buy one copy from us for a dollar, that was all he had to say. I start argue with the man and he went and call Dutty Flex on me... LOL!

Welllllll, if you were smart you'd work with the ARTISTS and produce/publish their music. Then you can charge them for studio work and collect royalties even after. You can also set up something where you'd put their music on itunes for them and promote their singles/albums and have different 'packages' they can choose from. Do that for the soca/chutney scene and you'll have something solid. if you can show them numbers afterwards you have their business for as long as they make music. There's alot of ways you can make money, selling mixed cds isnt the only way. Some of it might be out of your comfort zone at first but its all up to you.

Like I said 3-4 years ago, remix music is dead, move into original if you wanna make money aside from a day job. If you would of started back then, time like now you're job would of been self sufficient.

Here i have and idea, maybe this will put an end to this MP thing..
Trev meet me in ny and give me a copy of House arrest 1 and 2 and i will put it out in the market.. now these cds been on this site how long now. take me up on this !! and i prove to you guys once and for all this site doesn't affect what i do.
Shit Nasty was my best friend skites post all them new chutney songs how the helll u think i mad all them chutney cds

Trigga .. I tried that original market its a tuff tuff sell, mainly because people don't want to pay that much for cds, and there is no way to make original artist music with out the cost being high.

What about Vp records ... last i check they closed down on jamaica ave

socaman lets add your cds to the list also if u like.

Drop the cd business and learn the power of online music distribution. As for making original music, that aint hard to do either. Start small as u get a bigger facility for doing all that you can charge more. I wont go into detail but its highly possible, esp at my age.
