I doubt that will happen, im a huge chutney fan and this year i hardly listened to any chutney because most of it is shit, i never listen to soca but this year i found myself listening to more soca then chutney, ever since they got rid of the indian melodies i find myself moving from chutney to soca everyday

soca has been on point recently. Wotless, all the hits from Machel, Go dung.. they just keep coming. Its actually getting more difficult to keep up with lol

Dancehall is starting to get some flavor back to imo.. I don't get why they just don't make riddims for people to dance to, instead of just "bump" material. 2008 was definitely the best year for dancehall.

New chutney... ok alot of people hate it, I won't lie I do too but my reason is because I hear "rum" in every song, I don't really hate it for its lack of originality where they would take a melody from an indian song & change up the lyrics, I actually think that's somewhat creative, I used to criticize it before but I look at it now & honestly... the last time a chutney song came out where it was referred to as old chutney was Mor Tor, the last successful song I mean, & on top of that the original wasn't even a big hit, the remix with Machel was where it got its recognition as well as the remix Double Impact Sound Crew did on Da Chutney Zone 2. Fact is old chutney died simply because it wasn't getting anywhere, Big Rich came in the picture & helped turned everything around, honestly most of us who've been listening to chutney for years hate it but the genre would've died if it kept going at the rate it was going. If u listen to new chutney & u still have the mindset that "this sucks, this is another indian melody, old chutney should come back" then give up on chutney because I doubt it's gonna change. My advice is accept the change cause every music genre overtime is gonna change & if u can't adapt to change then u might as well stop listening to music.

The traditional Chutney style still exists, but its not dominant.
Some songs you should check out that has old school touch to it:

    Pookne - Rajin Dhanraj
Lawa - Raymond Ramnarine ft. Sam Boodram
Mousie Break Away - Artie Butkoon
    Sawan Ke - Drupatee Ramgoonai
Suno Suno Mousie - Rick Ramoutar
    Pangatawah - Vanessa Ramoutar
Rang Dhal Ke Mohanwa - Anil Bheem
    Dil Mora - Terry Gajraj
    Chale Jah - Hitman
Julanay Ke Jjhooka - Terry Gajraj
    Holi Kare - Ravi B
    Holi Khelab - King Raj
Suno Re Piya Mor - Stinky
Na Daru Piyea - Dubraj Persad
    Phoolasuganie - Brian Mohan
    Jhulo Lalana - Devanand Gatto
    Tanee Maro - Devanand Gatoo
    Basanti - Hemlatha Dindial

Those are definitely a few you should check out. But BIG RICH has put Chutney music mainstream, who would of thought you would hear Ah Drinka, Limer, Ah Shoulda Never on the radio?
Sunday nights, on 105.1 DJ Norie blasts Reggae,Soca, and surprisingly Chutney.

Chutney Soca music fusions Chutney with the Soca, and attracts different audiences. I assure you Jamaicans, Trini's, Guyanese, and other Caribbean nations all listen to this"Chutney Soca". Songs like Barman, Radica, Jep Sting Naina, Sunita have all crossed over due to the fact its Chutney Soca.

Yeah, 2012 didn't really bring anything really good, Single Forever was HUGE though, Wish Ah Was Single, alot of artists lost alot of steam due to the fact they stopped singing with indian melodies.

just my thought, everyone's complaining how chutney's been changing & they want old chutney back, while it is true old chutney is better than new chutney, chutney has been changing ever since it started. sundar popo songs from the 70s were way different compared to his hits in the 90s because music always changes. if he was alive today he'd prob have songs that probably would be like this too, same with kanchan. i prefer old chutney over indian melodies changed to rum or new songs that use techno beats, but i highly doubt there's going to be another sundar popo/kanchan that's going to bring back chutney directly to its roots and that's because it's always changing. 10 years from now we'll probably want these kind of songs back, who knows.

true, but sundars songs were always creative, not some rum lyrics over a hindi melody

my friend sent me this and i agree though, this performance is better than what chutney singers perform live today, but most singers that try to use traditional styles are usually over powered by "ravi b & ki"...

personally, the best chutney for me came out in d early 90's - when 103fm in Trinidad first started up. Music was arranged beautifully, not just slapped together to make a quick buck...BWIA, Treveni, D Rampersad and even the soca band Ed Watson & The Brass Circle were d Big Bands and to have them accompany you was a BIG THING. Sundar Popo recorded with all those bands and you will find that all Sundar's music was RICH. His music backing him helped propel him to greatness...he never settled for crap music.
