Well heres my quick review. My review doesn't count for anything, its up to the other 3 judges. Dozenshots Vs. GT Vibez - Dozenshots won. His mix was mastered and mixed a lot more cleaner. Darkside, your mix was too random with all your songs, and it was making me upset lol. Some of the mixes would sound good, and then its like damn it.. where the hell did this come from. Some people may think thats cool, but I like mixes that have a nice flow. EDIT: YEA YO YOU USED A BHAJAN FOR A BATTLE. I did not like that. Shotty Vs. JR - Shotty won. Decent mix, i didn't like the we found love instrumental being used with the indian. JR had a nice Wild one concept, the indian w. the vocal at 1:20 was cool, and when the indian remix loop came in with the elephant man. The rest i wasn't feeling. Mr. Destructive Vs. RavindraStyles - Destructive, when the Zoelah came in, I was like wtf, but the remix was cool. 2:20 was completely unnecessary, another Wtf point. Ravindra, most of your vocals need to be raised. One of those old indian songs i could barely hear. Decent indian session. Why so many random vocals? Hey, its your style.. Ravindrastyle lol i guess. Up, Cake, Faded, ain't feelin it. maybe if I could hear the vocals better. I feel like your mix coulda been a lot better if mastered and EQ'ed properly. I gotta go with Destructive on this one. DJ Ganja Vs. DJ Navin - Ganja won so I didn't listen to your mix since its late lol. I'll listen in the afternoon.
GT Vibez's mix was 4:11 seconds. Thought the limit was no more than 4 mins. Lol Good f*cking job DozenShots. I really liked your mix.
I thought it was 4 too and actually wrote that GT ViBEZ was disqualified at first, but in the Info thread, I wrote 5 minutes. GT ViBEZ's mix checks thru.
DJ Ganja: Obviously you win my default - but either way, you stepped up with this mix. Good to hear a variety of genres, especially the dubstep at 0.55. Main thing I didn't like with this mix was that it didn't sound very "clean" - it sounded a bit too cluttered at times, so I guess that's something to work on in the future. Dozenshots Vs GT Vibez: Dozenshots - really liked the use of 'Cant Touch This" beat, and the old school session in general. Liked the 'Snapbacks and Tattoos' session, leading into the quick killout at the end. GT - a LOT happening in this mix. That bhajan at 1:50 had a few too many drifts / didn't flow well. Deewano Se sound quality was poor - you gotta find better quality songs (or just don't use them). Watch them volumes - distortion from 2:20ish. The thing for you to work on in the future is your sound quality - mastering in general, and especially the quality of the tracks you use (namely the indian oldies.) Dozenshots takes this battle. Mr Destructive Vs Ravindrastyles Destructive - I was feeling the mix (esp Unda Mi Sensi) up til Wine Up On Me dropped. It kinda came out of nowhere. I liked the mix itself, just not the transition. Lmao nice Call Me Maybe concept ('Show Me Love' custom?), and that quick indian session. You gotta watch them volumes though - the indian session was a lil louder than the rest of the mix. I really enjoyed that smooth lovers reggae at the end. Ravindrastyles - If you're gonna drop Ke Ghungroo Toot Gaye, you're gonna have to something seriously special, not just a version mix. Watch the sound quality - Chalat Musafir vol was too low (and poor quality - why do you fellas use low quality tracks?). Vols need to be fixed from 1:20 - can barely hear the vocals..they're busy being overpowered by the instrumental. Throughout the mix, there was a general vocal overkill - they didn't really add anything to the mix and so most were unnecessary. Destructive takes this battle. Dj Shotty vs JR Prod: Shotty - I really enjoyed the first 45 secs (esp the Levels / Hotel Room (or did you use Push The Feeling On?) / Whine Up / Jab Siti Mare session). Liked the beat on the indian / chutney session, though some of the transitions were a lil "choppy". Not sure I liked 'We Found Love' instrumental on those indian songs - I think it would be better suited if used on a dance remix. Nice "I'm On One" session. 1:27 - 1:37 killed some of the hype of the mix, it was almost like dead air. That indian / chutney session at the end was almost unnecessary. I would've hoped for a better ending to what was otherwise, a very good mix. JR - nice Wild One concept. Liked the quick indian session (especially messing around with that indian vocal at 1:20). Cool concept on that Elephant Man track with that 90's dance track instrumental (the name of which escapes me right now, but west indians have been remixing with it since forever). Even though your mix was almost the same length at Shotty's, I felt he managed to display more skills in his time, and while your mix was good, his was that little bit better. Shotty takes this battle
DJ Ganja vs Dj Navin - Winner: DJ Ganja DJ Ganja - You won by default. Your mix was different from what you usually do. I liked your concept. The only thing here is quality. If you had that then you mixes would sound alot better. 6/10 GTViBEZ vs Dozenshots - Winner: Dozenshots GTVIBEZ - This mix is a complete mess. No flow and distortion all over. You mixed bhajans too. You had some studdering and gapping and all that so you can pull all of that off. Its just that your song & beat selection arent.... good. way too much going on in this mix it doesnt even catch me. overall the mix needs more ViBEZ. 4/10 Dozenshots - Good mix. Only thing here is the quality could be better & I expect that from you. Also those vengeance sfx usually mesh in with good quality mixes but here they stand out way too much. Not sure if you filtered it or not but w.e. I liked everything except 0:53 - 1:49. 7/10 Ravindrastyles vs Destructive - Winner: Destructive Destructive - Never slow down an acapella for it to fit a beat. Quality is all screwed up here. The only part of the mix I liked was 1:06 to 2:18. Everything else sounded like "filler" material, just to take up space. 5.5/10 RavindraStyles - Your mix has no bass at all. Your customs are pretty damn weak too. I couldnt hear the rest of your mix after the coolie music. 3/10 Shotty vs JRProd - Winner: JRProd Shotty - LMAO @ the intro. Good mix but work on making everything flow. Everything you put on im on 1 instrumental has been remixed already LOL, it sounds good though. The ending wasnt needed you should of ended with the reggae and that would of been better. 6/10 JRProd - Beginning of the mix surprised me. Your mix flowed alot better. I like everything. 7/10
Dozenshots vs. GT Vibez - I don't know why it seems to me as if GT Vibez's mixes always sound like an intro! haha. That was a nice battle. Dozenshots is just great, i love his remixing style! Nice attempt GT Vibez! Winner - Dozenshots Ravindrastyles vs. Destructive - Ravindrastyles's remix sounded kind of unclear to me, but i love the the strive. Although, i heard the same indian transitions in a remix by DNR in a christmas mix. The indian songs could have been eq'd a bit better as well, but nice. Destructive needs to work on those transitions and over eq'ing. Winner - Destructive Shotty - Well, you're a great remixer. You definitely showed some talent here! No criticism from me, haha. Nice one! I heard the "I'm on one" concepts though, as trigga said. Great stuff homie.
i respect everyones comments, thank you, it was a good battle, Honestly JR your mix was tuff i really enjoyed it, indian part was crazy styll and the wild one concept. may the best mix move on!!! as for the rest of contestants u all did well, but so far what the judges chose i agree with their choices for which person moves on!!!!
DJ Ganja Vs. DJ Navin DJ Ganja: Since you won this round by default, I will still review this mix with some constructive criticism. Nice try with the Electronic Dance loop on these songs. Some parts were melodious, others just fell apart. From the Hindi tracks to Madonna to Rick James to Sean Paul to Eminem etc... I'm loving the creativity. Keep practicing and you will succeed man!! My Vote: DJ Ganja Dozenshots vs. GT Vibez SC Dozenshots: Another amazing mix! I got lost in the hotness like it was a maze in the tropics! MC Hammer, Vanilla Ice, Debbie Deb, Afrika Bambataa and Salt 'N' Pepa, you know how much I love the old school bangers! However, some of the transitions were sloppy due to the lack of volume levelling. You'd be surprised how much the volumes affect the purpose of a mix. GT Vibez SC: The heavy Soca loop on "If I Was A Rich Girl" caught me off guard, same with "Savage Garden" lol. The Hindi selection was good, just need to fix some of those transitions. "Don Dale" came in hard as hell until you brought in "All-4-One" right after. You would have gotten an extra point if you organized this mix a little differently by genre. The random love songs were unnecessary lol. "Bailamos" LOL where are you guys pulling these songs up from? My Vote: Dozenshots - Mr. Destructive vs. Ravindra Style Mr. Destructive: You have potential my friend. You had some of the right concepts here. I'm enjoying the selection of beats for this mix. The "G-Unit" beat on "Mr. Vegas" was hard/dope but the Soca came in a little too sudden and caught me off guard. Great mix to "So Call Me Maybe", it gave it a fruity sound but very original. I can dig it! I got lost from 1:37 - 2:12. I didn't know what to expect which is why you should organize the mix differently to give the whole mix overall a better flow and make it easier to follow. Ravindra Style: The whole Hindi selection from the beginning to 1:09 was boring. Wasn't feeling the custom loops too much, although you did better with the Hindi music than the Hip Hop & Reggae selection towards the 2nd half of the mix. Keep practicing! My Vote: Mr. Destructive DJ Shotty vs. Jr. Prod DJ Shotty: WOAH! Where the fu-k did you pull this sh-t from? With a little minor adjustment, this mix could be an easy 10/10! ("J.R., Meh go slap one inna yuh face") Great introduction! The wordplay with the Hindi selection was clean, you just need to adjust those volumes a little bit. I'm glad you took my advice on using quick fade edges. I didn't hear a single clip! You got a little too carried away with the "We Found Love" loop but fu-k all that, 0:46 - 0:58 was insane, then the bass dropped at 0:59sec! That sh-t was craaaay! A little bit of House, Hindi, Chutney, Hip Hop, Reggae, Soca... I'm still wondering where you pulled this sh-t from! Jr Prod: Great start off, Wild Boys vs. Wild Thing vs. Born To Be Wild was absolute genius! The transitions, the volumes and concept was perfect. That's the sh-t I'm talking about! From 0:38 to 1:08 was a waste of time. From 1:09 to 1:32, I was waiting for the punch, but nothing happened! I'm pretty sure if you let the "Ae Mere Humsafar" kept going, it would have sound dope with what you were already doing to it. My Vote: DJ Shotty
Eh, i tried. Wah yuh go do. It's a friendly fun competition. I brought what i had to the table lol. I guess I need new comp speakers if yall hear distortion skunt. Appreciate the feedback tho, even if it was negative as FCUK. lol, i thought it sounded good tho =x
