It matters what you are doing with them. For a club or permanent installation, consider JBL or Yamaha. Both are priced descent and provide great reliability. For bass I would use Yamaha for sure. Their dual 18" box out perform's JBL in almost every aspect.

Off Topic: Why would you not use an 18" or 21" for bass? Have you heard where hip hop bass is at these days? Every sub claims for be able to go as low as 30 Hz or so, but most of them barely reach 38 Hz. Anything below 45 Hz is a matter of moving huge amounts of air. A bigger cone would clearly more efficiently do that.

Now, for bass; everyone loves the Cerwin Vega Earthquake, RIGHT? Of course they do, it is a great performer and a brilliant combination of technology and raw power. Folded horns or scoops are by far the most efficient way to reproduce bass. This bass isn't clear or loud close to the box at all. It sounds mudded and overwhelming, but go 1 full wave length out (2 times the folded horn length so in Vega's about 13 feet), and you will hear and feel the bass. Now, folded horns are NOT for every room. Apart from Cerwin Vega's, Yorkville and Community make some amazing subs, they are all front loaded.

With all that said, it's hard to say which name brand is best, but Yamaha, JBL, Cerwin Vega, Yamaha, Yorkville, and Community are all worth mentioning.

As for MACKIE, it was an awesome company and produced by RCF. However, since their fall out, they still use many of RCF's parts, but poor quality control and maintenance of redesign has lead to the decline in the quality and sound of Mackie Products. As many of you have read on this forum and others, the 2nd versions of many Mackie products are reporting many bugs.

A big up and coming name brand in the speaker world is QSC. They have proven themselves with their amps, now its time to shine on the powered speaker market for them!

Cerwin Vega is the best in those choices and Mackies are by far the worst, lots of thermal problems, over exaggerated mids,no built-in fan

QSC and JBL kick ass on the powered ends. Yorkville powered speakers disappointed me compared to what they used to sound like. DAS has some really sick speakers if you got cash. But nonetheless EAW will always be number one to me.

Ok so I didnt wanna start a new thread since this one already has to do speakers but im picking out stuff for my house....anyways i was originally going to get some techincal pro speakers just to practice on but i decided to upgrade a little to some JBL's. Now my question is

Should I get 2 JBL SF-15's which have an RMS of 250watts or should i get one dual JBL SF-25 RMS of 500watts

Now heres the part that threw me off, the SF-15's have an RMS of 250 but peak is 1000, how is it that the RMS is only 250? and is that all im going to get of continous power or will it be more? because its $300 more than I wanted to spend and yes i know its gonna last longer but I expect more than 250 for an RMS....

Someone please explain this to me so I can understand. Thanks
