the router tends to blink alot. for some reason, i cannot go at a certain distance with my laptop. Then sometimes my network has low signal and i contacted the company and they said its because i have too much unnecessary junk files.. and then they said i already have this router for 4 years so i might need a new one

Routers usually last well past 4 years. by lights always blinking on it means that there is internet activity which is common with high speed. I wouldn't worry about the lights as those just let you know that the network is up and running. as far as the signal range i might suggest moving the router to an open area where walls and objects do not obstruct it. it really doesn't matter how much junk files or programs you have, it shouldn't even affect your signal at all. Just relocate the router and see if you notice any improvements in the signal, if not then i would invest in another router.

junk files or any file on your computer will never affect your internet connection, for a wireless router i recommend you get a wireless "N" router, the signal will reach far and youd have solid connections, i also recommend d-link , net-gear and linksys for the brands of the router. id choose a d-link router over any other brand.

this should be good for you:

You will need a wireless N router as mentioned above. Make sure its dual-band in the event that you will connect wireless devices that will do alot of video/media streaming. With a dual band router it uses one band for regular internet activitiy, such as browsing, viewing emails, etc. The other band will primarily be used for devices such as a PS3 or XBOX, for gaming and media streaming. The most preferred brands are Linksys (Cisco) or Netgear. I would not recommend for you to get such brands as Dynex, or Belkin. Basically you get what you pay for, and those brands tend to be cheaper than the others. Also make sure when placing your router that it is in an elevated location and away from interference that can be caused by cordless phones, microwaves, radios, etc . The frequencies that these devices use can interfere with the router and cause a decrease in the signal strength. If you need more assistance e-mail me at Mikemotilal@gmail.com
