    - whats your budget?
    - what do you need it to do? is it for education? to dj? to remix music? etc etc

on a different note - have you tried uninstalling programmes you dont need, defragging, cleaning registry, anti-virus/spyware scans etc?

finally - another option would be just wipe the whole machine and reinstall Win XP on it - XP should run smoother on whatever laptop you've got now, than Vista.

I've had many known issues with the Dell Xps line so i would stay clear from them.. Hp seems pretty good, but with any computer.. You take care of it, it takes care of you.

All computers use the same parts, pretty much, It is the support that you get that counts, do the research see who fits your needs

i say take socaselectah advice and install a clean version of XP ..vista has too many issues ..if you at least have a dual core processor and at least 2gb ram you can upgrade and install windows 7..if your looking to buy a new computer it depends on what your budget is and what your going to use it for like socaselectah mentioned

In addition to Soca Selectah and Dj Nazim, I would recommend that if money isn't an issue you should upgrade to Windows 7 if you choose Dell.
