I have a Western Digital external hard drive and when I try to eject it, the eject button doesn't show up. What is causing this?

The best way to eject that I suppose would be through the taskbar. I don't know why HDs come up like that without a disk icon and such. Is that a U3 Western Digital HD?

Am I missing something here? Since when were we able to eject a HDD???????
Only CD/DVD rom can eject..the rest is control by the build in usb controller..if u want to disconnect it then go to usb tab at the bottom right and click safely remove.

When you right click on the external hard drive or flash drive, there should be an option from the list called "Eject". Thats another way of safely removing hardware.

I am pretty sure its a USB attach device and there is an option by the clock which has the option to eject.

Okay, I ejected it through the taskbar and it worked. Thanks. It's just a regular 320 GB Western Digital My Book external hard drive.

^ Some hard drives come with it's own third party software such as U3, and because you're using it without the software may be why there's no icon or normal way of opening it.

But yeah, I always eject my stuff from the taskbar. Alot easier. And it doesn't give you that "Cannot remove at this time" crap
