If you aren't that tech savvy with video editing (aka Adobe Premiere) then Pinnacle Studio 16 is the way to go. You drop in the video clips, you can edit and add transitions and such. From there you can export or burn a DVD.

I remember my Pops started with version 5 back in the day and it was the simplest to use and got more out of it. I have the program if you need it. (version 15)

I also have Adobe Premiere which isn't too bad but still you have to get used to using but only for Mac OS.

I'm not advanced with video editing but I've messed around with Windows Movie Maker. It has some neat features.

depends what you need. sony vegas is more for simple editiong, after effects is when you get into special effects which is a little more complicated unless you know how to use the program. Also having a good understanding of photoshop kinda helps with after effects imo.

I gotta say, for most things I use Corel VideoStudio. Awesome program that's simple yet powerful. For advanced techniques and effects, Sony Vegas is now on par with Adobe Premiere Pro. I used them mostly for upscaling SD-HD videos since it isn't an easy thing just as yet.
