It all depends on how you feel comfortable with . If you been using a PC for a very long time and feel comfortable with using it and all of Windows programs, then go ahead. Practically, all programs are designed for Windows nowadays but a Mac is coming up as well. If you want to try something fresh and new, I would go with a Mac.

The pro of a PC is that you can run any programs and you have lots of customizable options with themes, screensavers and so on. You can do a lot with Windows but the cons is that there can be blue screens of death at times, Viruses/Malware/Spyware harming the computer from websites or programs, crashes and some other things.

The pro of a Mac is that it is all built with easy to use applications. If you got an iPhone, think of it as the same thing as it but on a MacBook Pro. It's smooth, fast, and very reliable that I guarantee you a MacBook Pro or Air or an iMac will last you 4 years straight. Also, you can use something called BootCamp to run any Windows operating system on it by partitioning a small part of the hard drive. It has its own app store and built in iTunes. Everything you can think of is in a Mac.

The cons is that there are certain programs that a Mac cannont run like a Windows could, only Apple employees can fix anything internal because they have recently updated the hardware and they are pretty expensive. That's how I see it.

So the decision is up to you. I just single out the pro's and con's of each and hope you make a good decision. If you want another decision, check out CNET's review of a MacBook Pro/Air/iMac and the reviews of all Windows 8 laptops/desktops/ultrabooks at cnet.com.

If you know what ur doing on a pc, and have some proper hardware, and software covering your ass most of the cons listed above shouldn't be a problem.

PC has way more freedom, cheaper to get a really good setup, with more bang for your buck. If u know how to overclock, u can get i5's outdoing macs with i7's etc.

Macs, are user friendly to those with little experience with both the hardware, and software operation. But the cost is your freedom to tinker with stuff.

I would choose based on your applications. Do u plan to run heavy graphical games and programs, or just run word and a browser?

i would say for the price of a mac you can build a pc thats the exact same thing for less. or even better.
Or you can build an hackintosh. (pc that runs mac and or windows.) but it is user preference.

PC is good for gaming and office work. Mac is good for video edit and art oriented projects.
