What are some good DJing headphones from around $100-150? I was looking at the Pioneer HDJ-500 or Beats By Dre Solo. I'm leaning more torwards Pioneer. What do you guys think?

Doesnt really matter what brand. as long as your driver is 50mm. I have techniques and pioneer and both sound the same.

That's what I thought about the Beats By Dre Solo. It doesn't look like its meant for DJing. Right now, I have the Numark Redwave. I've used the Sony MDR v700 before, it's really good.

Beats are very bass heavy headphones. Of course everyone and their grandma is rocking beats. I don't think they sound all that great, but that's just my observation. Sony's MDR V700 are pretty decent all around headphones and you can find them for under $100. They aren't the best but they are good all around headphones.

the new solo hd sounds much better since they fixed the extremely boomy low end on the previous version.
but of course, you can get better sounding headphones than beats for less than $200 bucks. i only bought mine to use at the gym btw.

There are quite a few headphones that I have had that are great in audio but don't get the due diligence that some of the other companies out there do. Most likely do to over the top marketing campaigns like Beats by Dre. Grado, Koss and Sennheiser are on the list of very good if not great headphones. With great detail and quality.

Sennheiser is a great headphone and very durable since it is metal construction
The Beats Pro or Mixr are also great since they are metal but people attack them because they are high price
another good headphone is the V-Moda Crossfade LP which is also metal
all of these are durable and have great noise cancellation technology to save your ears

As a regular DJ in the industry, I've broken too many headphones. Smartest thing is to spend money on a really great pair of headphones, and get the warranty that protects/replaces it when it does break.

I got the Pioneer HDJ-2000, and paid $15 extra for the 2 year warranty, which I can continue to renew every 2 years. Worth the price, and still the best headphones out there for DJs.
