I was looking at the Novation launchpad s and it seems okay but usually professionals use it to make live beats..

Maschine Mk2. Large learning curve but pretty good overall. Does it all.

look into MPC 3000, Roland 404sx, Korg or Boss. Korg and Boss have a few different types.
I have the Roland 404sx. I am pretty satisfy with it.

key size is up to you (25,32,49,61). best to get semi weighted at least though. if you're looking for a keyboard i recommend akai or novation. drum machines - im not too sure. ive been looking around for a midi keyboard myself and i ended up with a Novation Impulse 25. pretty good so far, but im still learning.

Use a sample based machine so you do not limit yourself...MPC 2000XL is cheap nowadays...
