Serato just runs way better and smoother on a mac. Thats it.

Other than that, windows would be perfect for everything else. I'm unsure of how Traktor runs

@brown gal, talking nonsense, i've used a sony vaio running vista for 2 years with 3 gigs of ram and it NEVER froze on me, its how you care for it, only recently i started using mac, but using a windows pc is just as good, the difference between mac and windows is that the windows processors are way faster than that of a mac...

Never had any problem with Windows, okay beside dj-ing I am a Technical Consultant, so I know every ins and outs of all MS products. I use a HP 6910p with Win 7 and Virtual DJ 7.

Just use a dedicated machine when djing. Don't use that machine for Internet browsing, turn off wireless and all things you don't need for your show.

The best to do is to reinstall your machine from scratch without all the "bells" that are installed by default which you will never use. For that you will need a Windows CD, not the one that comes with your computer as that will put all the "bells" while it installs.

If you don't have a MS Windows CD, just remove all the "bells". You only need your DJ application on it.

Also make sure that you configure the Power options correctly, disable things like put the computer or hard disk to sleep. Configure the machine using the recommendations of your DJ application, check best practices in the forums. You'll see that your Windows machine will never freeze.

If you want to DJ, I recommend using a Mac. Mac has better software and hardware. If you have a windows computer it's better to use Cubase, but if you use a Mac you better use Logic.

I'm using 4gb of ram on win 7 for traktor, when loading and preving songs you can hear a lag in the music.

Macs are built for providing heavy amount of resources and can handle almost any video/audio application.
