A lot of answers for this question...... I personally would keep it as long as it was running and save up in the mean time. You can lease but then you just keep making payments over and over but you do get a new car every few years.
I would have had my 1st car until today but the transmission was acting up and I decided to make a decision based on the future and went ahead and got a brand new car. I didn't want to spend all that money to fix a tranny and blah blah blah in the long run. In my situation it paid off in the long run.

If nothing is wrong with the car just keep it, if something is wrong with it or it has major expenses then you have to sit down and figure out if it is cheaper to make the repairs or just to get a new car. In todays world you have to have some type of savings to make it. The sooner you save up the better in the long run. I had my 1st car for about two years until I saved up to get a new one. Paid extra on it and paid it off in 2 and a half years and now im working my ass off to save up again.

Long story but I hope it helped a little lol

I would probably keep a car about 5 years before considering changing

all depends on what you have for a first car. I had a crappy first car then saved up enough and bought a nice car

depends on type of car, how much mileage and reliability of that car. I would keep it as long as i could. And if its a first car its usally shitty, so i wouldnt even bother selling it, i would just save up and buy a second car..

If it's a good running car, reliable, cheap, etc...

Keep it forever as a beater/DD.

I sold my first car, a '93 Corolla and it was a beast. I shoulda kept that car around cause it was built like a tank. Believe it or not.

Maintenance is the word..so I would say if there are no problems keep it...don't sell it just 'because' ...it's all about reliability..and how expensive it is to maintain...

I had a honda accord second generation and my mother towed it after 2 months of owning it because she thought it was too old.
    I was pissed.

It depends on the car. if its a nice car that runs good then there's no need to upgrade and spend unnecessary money
