    the hardest thing is to troubleshoot the problems.

    yes... when buying parts makes sure they are compatible... for example make sure the socket is matched the the motherboard.

    yeah, the hardest part is just choosing the parts, making sure they are are compatible, and achieve what you want to do with computer. Putting it all together is pretty straight forward. Cable management may be a pain.

    Stores like Microcenter are great and have an entire section devoted to custom built PC's

    in my experience the hardest part is choose the correct and affordable components.
    i had no problems on first boot up after building.

    Remember to wear an anti static wristband or ground yourself to the computer case while working.

    they are also bundle packages available to make the selection of components simpler.FOR eg. you can get a MB and PROCESSOR along with memory when its on special at some stores.they will bundle it and sell it together, you would also save a few $$ this way.
