    Dont buy cheap, but get one which last at last for a few years. Samsung tabs or IPad mini would be fine.

    How old is the kid? Don't buy very expensive tablet for your kid if he/she is only 5 years old.

    Get a cheap Samsung Galaxy Tab and put a bunch of kid friendly apps on it. That's what I did.
