You gotta look at the new line out now. Sony Canada JUST put out a video today announcing their Android TV. It's ultra thin and basically is controlled by your phone, boasts the same apps as Chrome cast and lets you cast to it, and you can play your apps on the TV with special controllers they're marketing now too. I'd say that's pretty different than dreambox.

You can try installing "Kodibuntu" onto an old pc you got laying around at home.. and basically connect that to your TV and use it as a supposed "Android Box". That's what I do and it works fine.

Dreambox is for Free To Air satellite. Android TV uses video plugins and you can get IPTV addon which is more reliable now that FTA.

Android TV, Roku's, Amazon Fire stick and Google Chrome cast etc are all just substitutes you can use instead of obtain cable such as HBO, Starr etc from your service provider. These devices came with reinstall apps already and just require user credentials to signing in order to use such as Netflix. In other words, if you use these apps on a daily basis and already have you subscriptions with them, then you can obtain one of the mention devices such as Roku or Android TV and stream. This will guarantee to save you a little cash at the end of the month rather than paying up to the service providers.

dream box is satellite receiver where as android media box/ tv - is a streaming media device

android tv box : from my experience

MXQ PRO & MXQ PLUS: Android platform streaming media console, with quad core processor, 2gb DDR 3 RAM , DUAL wifi channel :2.4GHz for working wireless signals through walls and various rooms , 5GHz channel for same room applications . 4K ,HDMI , Optical out, Ethernet port for direct wired lan connection .

Basically it allows you to stream movies . series , live tv ,with & without subscription for netfix, hulu etc, The " kodi " app which allows you to greater expand your content and install further application for your preference .
