    Go on Craigslist - Get yourself Technics SL-1200 or 1210. No comparison, once you hone your skills on a pair of 1200's you can use any turnrables(not sure if you would want to...)

    Pioneer WeGo series is very good for beginners, and has alot of functionality.

    There a lot of stores in Toronto for purchasing turntables.

    I buy from The System Music Warehouse. Talk to Barry. Pay cash, and you can get a great deal. Talk the price down. This place is in Pickering.

    I taught myself how to dj on tables back in the day using Gemini's. Gemini 1000's actually. They had their issues, particularly with being too light (which caused 'humming' due to vibration). At the time, it was what I could afford. I was still able to learn though. The torque was great. The pitch was responsive. I didn't need much else.

    Having said this, I agree with the dudes above. You should purchase 1200s. When I started playing at clubs, Technics were almost always installed. They feel different. They ARE better. I had to get used to them. 1200s were the mainstream tables for good reason. They've maintained their quality over time. If you learn to use 1200s properly, you'll be able to dj forever. You'll have the fundamentals down.

    Nowadays, they are making super oem tables that are just as good as technics 1200s. Audio technica and pioneer to name a few.

    Get a pioneer dj-sb2 and just move up from there once mastered. Its adorable and great for beginners. Works with Virtual DJ and Serato.
