you can open the drives and access the disk....normally you take it in the computer repair..... and they have a unit that can scan the disk and recover your data. just ask for them to relocate to new hard drive.....
    good luck

you could buy a same model and since you already took the disk a part, you could move it into the new one and see if it was only the motor.... or another option buy a new enclosure and see if that works.
When you plug it in ... is there any message in your PC? or just dead?

If you are referring to a 3.5 inch hard drive that you have in a case which is USB connected to your PC and not a Mac, then I would suggest the following.

    1. Is it plugged in? Sounds stupid, but a 3.5 inch hard drive in an external enclosure requires power. Just plugging it in via USB will not work. I am not referring to the smaller 2.5 inch drive.

    2. As you have already done, remove it from the case then attach it directly to your PC. That is via the IDE or SATA connection. Then, buy or "borrow" Spinrite (Google it) and run it. If your drive is salvageable, there is a good chance that the software will be able to repair the drive. If it does, copy all of your music to a know good drive in case the drive fails again.
