I'm not a dj by any means but I do a few house parties every year. I'm thinking about purchasing this speaker for basement and out door family events. I will only be running my phone off of it.

Is this junk or decent for my needs?

For your purposes you might be better with a Mackie Thump. Its a few bucks more but you will get more bass out of it and it will be able to get louder if needed for parties. Its also a more recognized and reputable brand. Only draw back is that it doesn't have a USB port, SD card slot, or bluetooth. The new model has a bluetooth option if you need it.

I don't recommend it, at $250 you can get an entry level speaker from a name brand company. Mackie thumps are around that price, Behringer d215 are also close, EV zlx are similar. Remember when it comes to audio, you get what you pay for.
