Lately it seems A LOT of the reggae and dancehall coming out of Jamaica sounds more like R&B than Jamaican music.
It's the case of the DISAPPEARING BOOMING bass line typically heard in reggae and dancehall in exchange for the heavy drum lines you usually associated with R&B... What do you think?

Totally agreed man. The genre of music has been going downhill for years.. youths like Alkaline & Popcaan singing more R&B than anything, on top of that, all their songs sound the same. Only Charly Black, Konshens & Busy Signal can ride those hardcore dancehall riddims these days that get the people up and dancing

Newer generation started following the Hip Hop Trap music from America and UK. I spoke with some Jamaican producers and a lot of what they are doing now as far as drums are using the same 808 trap style samples with some manipulation. It's become fully digital rather than some real percussion instruments. Rightfully so, music changes over generations but I feel like they took the pure soul out of Dancehall altogether.

I think the major change has come from how music is consumed these days. Rather than listening your favourite deejay on the radio, or trading CDs with your friends and record shops, everything online and streams

They spend too much time trying to appeal to an international audience. Also they have allowed the dysfunctional behaviors to manifest and cultivate notable spaces. So now retarded behaviors are popular. Overall it's happening to all black music.
