I have a Western Digital 320 External Harddrive. I've been wondering about the power, should i plug out the plug and keep the USB in all the time or plug out everything when I'm not using it?

I dont know when to keep it plugged in and stuff

when you shut your computer down the drive shuts down as well.
unless you have a model that doesnt turn off.

i WOULD make sure you have it atleat connected to a surge protector just incase lighting strikes and blows the drive up.

its possible very possible atleast in my area thats why i have 3 surge protectors after everything goes thru the power conditioner

    EDIT

if its on all the time even if you turn your computer off find a way to turn it off

all that heat and constant hd spin will lead to wear and tear WHICH EVENTUALLY the hd WILL FAIL
click of death click of death.
it just happend to my hd and i went out the same time that shit clicked went right to circuit city and copped a new drive, now that shit takes more then 3 tries to even spoll up

mind you my external costed almost 400 bucks when i bought that shit about 3 or 4 years ago

    lmao u external have jumbie

It's ok to leave that sht on all the time. Just make sure you don't have it stuck in a corner or between nothing. Because when it doesn't get air an over heats then your screwed lol. So just make sure it can get air an it doesn't over heat an u should be fyne.

once your cpu is turned off it will automaically shut down becuase these new external drives that r comming out are engery efficient so you dont burn as much power
