Hey I've been doing some googling and i cant find anyway except a boot log hack that can let you use 4gb of ram in xp. Most people say its unstable so anyone else knows ways to get 4gb of ram to be detected in Xp that would be great thanks.
u need a 64 bit processor usually they end with a 64 sum examples are; Athlon 64, Athlon 64 FX, Mobile Athlon 64, Turion 64, and Opteron processors from AMD, and the Xeon with EM64T and Pentium 4 with EM64T from Intel. all those are 64 bit processors^ google your processor and check to see if you are not sure
here is what really occures. xp or any 32bit windows DOES NOT SUPPORT 4GIGS OF RAM. it supports maximum of 3gb. then some programs only will use up to 2gb of ram. like acid it will only utilize 2gb ram. so in other words 32bit window os is slowly becoming outdated because the os is the limiting factor for performance for programs. osx can run up to as many gbs you want. which is sick. programs like logic can utilize up to 16gb ram or more if you wish. then the downside of 64bit os is some programs dont support it or there arent drivers and shit like that. annoying.
i realized dat wen jones said it -_- anyway bro da answer to ur problem is simply getting da 64 bit version.
thanks guys i'm just going to wait for when i get my new mobo and processor then maybe go Vista since it does come with 6gb of ram in the deal
Technically 32bit xp can see up to 4 gig of ram , but with different boards it will vary due to the fact the the onboard shtuff would reserve memory space and make that number differ from 3-3.9gb ........but if xp has the Physical Address Extension it will see the full 4gig in 32bit version with ease and get around the above issue. I have an older P4 runnin xp 32-bit, without the plugin will only see 3.6gb, with it sees the full 4 gig installed. So there are ways to get around this things.
i think im just going to wait till i get my new board and i7 processor...It comes with 6gb but im afraid that XP still wouldnt be able to see it as it is triple channel memory..
yea yea......if not go mac........had 1 for just over a yr..........usin parallels live to start whatever windows os when i need it without rebooting eg. xp/vista/7..............
alright thanks man im more of a PC person because of the flexibility of hardware unless its laptops then I'd consider a Mac.
