i recently installed xp dark edition onto my laptop
now whenever i close the laptop it goes to standby
    how do i change this?

another question, if i delete the hibernation file from the computer, when i want to use it again (hibernation) will the file automatically be created again?

one more; which is more efficient, standby or hibernate ?

    thanks !

edit: okay well i found the options for when i close the laptop. had to go to performance and maintenance in the control panel, never guessed it would be there.. but if anyone could answer my other 2 questions it wud be appreciated

Standby mode is used to conserve energy. When the computer is placed in this mode it switches to a low-power state. All files and applications that you had open remain open but certain devices, including the monitor and hard disks, turn off. Everything that is in the computer’s memory stays there. It is not saved to the hard drive. This mode is ideal when you are taking a short break but it is not the ideal solution when you will be away from your computer for longer periods of time.

Hibernate mode takes everything in your computer’s memory and writes it to a file on the hard drive. The computer is then almost shut down completely. You will notice that it takes longer for your computer to go into and come out of hibernate mode than stand-by. Ideally, if you do not want to shut down your computer, hibernate mode is the better choice when you will be away from your computer for extended periods of time than standby mode.

Standby is way more effective when closing your laptop, it usually tends to go up faster, hibernation takes a while for background processes to get up back which is why it usually goes slower.
When you go on standby tho watch out for your wireless internet receiver to go. It might take a couple of seconds get internet, don't give up, just keep rejoining your network.
And remember to keep your temp files clean of unwanted program archives, keeps your laptop clean and easier to start up from memory(files that you keep), so i just recommend clearing out all of the word docs from cmd:%temp%. Gl banna. My laptop is very old, 3-4 years now and its already giving fan problems just today my fan got clogged with dust. always clean out your computer using compressed air cans instead of blowing in it and getting everything with spit.

Standby has a weak point: after opening back up your comp or coming back from standby, process's might not run, like whenever i go on standby my computer as you no shuts off internet about 78% of the time. Also it does things like shut off user process's and makes it inaccessible to restore until computer is restarted. The Process loss is the cause for internet explorer to go off"iexplore" for me is internet and literally the computer process. Internet is "explorer", that what you look for in process , end either one and your computer is basically useless.

Hibernate has a less chance of losing proccess's.

I recommend just choosing standby options to those that wont shut down vital component process's.

    word thanks aj
i like to put my pc on standby when i go to sleep seems to start up faster
i dont mind loosing the battery power as its always plugged in
but sometimez when i come from standby the screen takes mad long to turn on
or doesnt turn on at all until i restart it

i like to have all my programs open
and also i like to have all my tabs there when i start it up
and plus if i shut it down and start it back up, ill have to exit the background processes i dont wanna use

i like standby better cuz it opens things way faster. and it doesn't really use any battery. the thing is though if you have your laptop unplugged it only stays on standby for a certain amount of time, so you gotta set that too in the control panel. and i don't think you should delete the hibernation thing cuz it can be used just like shut down to get things running faster. just uncheck for like closing the lip and stuff. butttt hibernate is the GREEN way to go, since less battery is being used. =]
