I'm surprised this thread wasn't even started lol but anyways two legends in bollywood and we still listen to most of their songs today. Both of them have different styles which I don't think anybody can describe and both have sang so many hits it would make the singers of today look like, well....crap.

Growing up my dad gave me no choice but listen to Rafi, I've heard and seen more Shammi Kapoor songs then Amitabh Bachan songs. As I grew up I began to love Rafi songs, I'm not a person that has every single Rafi song in my ITunes but I can still enjoy one whenever I hear it. So I'm onda Rafi side.

Yu simply can't compare Kishore, Mukesh & Mohd. Rafi...because..there 3 artists were successfull in their own way...but at the same level...we all know that they had success and that they could sing...Some say...Mukesh is better..some say Rafi or the other one says Kishore.......they all good ...but in their own way

Personally i would go for Mukesh....because he made some really heart touching songs...with perfect lyrics

True Words. They Were All From BAsically A Different Era In The Indian Genre. They All Did Wonderful Jobs At Their Music. So It's Pretty Much Impossible To Judge Them. Also, Many Of The Forum Members Here Are Use To Listening To Remixed Of Their Songs. So They Don't Know The True Essence And Feelings Of The Original Music.

brilliant word to describe oldies. i also like "melody". i sit back and listen to them oldies "yeh kya hua" "mera pyar bhi tu hai" "mere jeevan saathi" and someone tell me that u honestly dont feel the emotion from those songs? give me goosebumps sometimes!

LOL It's difficult to compare the two because they both belong to two different eras (rafi to the classical 50s and 60s, kishore to the 70s and early 80s). their styles are different, their songs are different, and their voices are extremely different. hear the difference between their voices when amitabh bachchan uses them. it all depends on the person the voice is used upon. mohammed rafi was chosen to sing for kishore kumar in his earlier years. i think the song was called "ajab hai dastaan teri ae zindagi". there was another song that mohammed rafi sang for kishore kumar but i cannot remember the name. this was because his [kishore kumar] voice wasnt "suitable" for that era. kishore kumar had to imitate k.l. saigal before he received any type of recognition as a singer. as soon as kishore kumar started singing for the upcoming generation in the 70s, that was it for mohammed rafi. his voice was more suited for the classical crowd, so it got "outdated". no doubt both of them are excellent singers.

A topic like this can go on forever because everyone has different opinions. both are equally appealing. at least they arent singing the songs of today. it wouldnt do justice to their voice lmao. i agree with socaselectah and dreamreaper on this. there can be no comparison between the two.

I never really grew up listening to Rafi but I have heard many of his songs. My dad's all-time favorite singer is Rafi and he says no one can ever sing like him ever again even though Kishore and singers today like Sonu Nigam and Udit Narayan are very good. Gotta go with Rafi.
