go in to "network connection" and check to see if "local area network" is disabled. if not, go to "device manager " under "network adapter" you'll see something like "10/100 network connection"..delete it ..restart the computer should automatically reinstall the driver and see if that works.

    Hey Supra, did it work?

Usually that happens to those Cable DSL boxes. After a while, it locks the Ethernet output and you got to swap it at your local Cable store. My aunt had this same problem, we thought it was the computer or the wire but it happened to be the box in the end!

Have you power cycled your modem? ie unplug it from the wall and then plug it back in? Inspect the Ethernet cable and look for cuts in the shielding or if any of the "phone jack" ends are loose. If they are then replace it with another one.
