So 2 days ago i got a message saying that i need to format my external HD before i can use it. i've looked at several threads on here already about this topic, however nothing has worked. i really need his hard drive to start working again considering that i have all my music, pictures, movies, documents etc. when i go to "my computer" it shows the folder to open my external drive but i can't open it. if someone can help me it would be GREATLY appreciated!

    i am running win.7
i've tried restarting my computer, trying it on another computer and even opening it up to see if everything was connected yet nothing worked.

remove it from the external case and plug it directly into your computer.

Try a Data recovery software before you format.
