Do you know that you can actually increase your internet speed in windows 7 despite the fixed bandwidth provided by your internet service provider. This is due to the reason that Windows 7 actually stores 20 percent of the entire bandwidth available for its own updates and access to the Microsoft Servers. Most of us are completely unaware of the fact because the option to control Windows bandwidth is completely hidden from us. However, in this article I am going to guide you step by step how you can change the bandwidth speed and use all 100 percent of the total bandwidth available.

    1. First open Run by pressing Windows+R on your keyboard. Then type gpedit.msc and hit Enter.
    2. Now select Administrative Templates and then select Network under Administrative Templates.
    3. Next you have to select and double click QoS Packet Scheduler on the right hand side.
    4. Once you double click QoS Packet Scheduler you will get a screen as show below. Select and double Click Limit reservable bandwidth.
    5. By default you will see the default settings as Not Configured. Even though the bandwidth limit below shows zero percent and is grayed, Windows 7 still reserves 20 percent of the current bandwidth available.
    6. Now you need to click Enable and drag the bandwidth percent to zero percent and then click Apply and then hit Ok.
    7. Now run Disk Cleanup and restart your browser. Your Computer will utilize 100 percent of the total bandwidth available and you will also notice a slight gain in download speed.

I tried entering "gpedit.msc" and a message came up and said "Windows cannot find gpedit.msc".

gpedit.msc is only on Windows 7 Professional and Ultimate. If it's not in your system32 folder, you don't have it.

However, you can copy the file from a Professional/Ultimate edition to your system32 folder and it should run. See if that works.

Home Premium and Basic include minimum accessibility to edit its registry capabilities, among other things. You can try it and it may work but there's a slight chance it won't read gpedit.msc

If you do try it, let me know if it runs.

Tuneup Utilities can also help for those who can't access the gpedit.msc options.

    I think it's not true.
Maybe the windows updates will get the first internetaccess but the download speed self will not be lowered.
