This happen to me before, I contacted Microsoft they told me it's caused by a recent change in firewall settings.
You would eventually have to back your CPU up and restore factory settings.Depending if you have the disc you would be able to restore without having to back up.Most likely factory reset will be the best option.

LOL did you check to see if you have automatic updates enabled?

You can do this by going to

    Control Panel > Automatic Updates
    or
    Control Panel > Security Center

This is for Windows XP not sure about Vista or Windows 7 since I've never seen those :x

and check to see if it is enabled if not then enable it and you'll be fine. If it was already enabled let me know.

Why don't you Google stuff like this and try to get a solution before you come and ask around on this forum?

you should first try what rookie said. make sure security center is turned on. in vista you usually get notified by the icon below.

after you enable it. turn OFF the firewall and enable automatic updates. click on check for updates .

    hope this helps

    1. Click the "Start" Button, click "All programs", and click "Accessories".
    2. Right-click "Command Prompt", and click "Run as administrator". If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
    3. Please enter the following command, and press enter.

    REGSVR32 WUAUENG.DLL

You will get a "DllRegisterServer in wuaueng.dll succeeded" window.

    4. Then, please move on to enter the following commands one by one. A success notification will be received after each command.

    REGSVR32 WUAPI.DLL
    REGSVR32 ATL.DLL
    REGSVR32 WUCLTUX.DLL
    REGSVR32 WUPS.DLL
    REGSVR32 WUPS2.DLL
    REGSVR32 WUWEBV.DLL

most likely u have a trojan virus. Try running a free trojan remover like Loaris (older version for free)..Then try to run malwarebytes. You can google them or get it here @ mastahpiece. that will get rid of the problems and u be able to do yur updates.. Good Luck!

I had that same issue, googled it and found out it was indeed a VIRUS. I got it when I was installing a cracked/hacked version of my antivirus :(

    I eventually reintalled my OS
