    i have a 320 gig external hard drive. i had it for a while now and recently its been giving me some problems.

    when i plug in my external it loads fine, but when i go to look into it, it freezes everything on my comeputer, it shuts down windows explorer and everything. i dont know what i can be, i thought of the possibility of having a virus on there but i scanned it and nothing came up.

    if any of you know what the problem might be, please provide some help.

    I can not help you with that.
    But here is a source I found.
    "How to Prevent External Drive Failure".

    mainly it's caused by bad sectors.

    it's a 50/50 thing.
    right-click on the drive -> tools -> error-checking -> check now.
    tick "scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors".
